Nuclear Engineer III or Senior Nuclear Engineer (Power Uprate Projects)
Depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position as a Sr. Engineer or Engineer III
Summary
This career/senior engineering role manages specialized work within the Nuclear Generation Department, supporting power uprate projects at Catawba, McGuire, and Brunswick. In addition to technical responsibilities, this position provides direct oversight and integration of supplemental engineers (including contract, vendor, and temporary staff) to ensure project objectives are met efficiently and in compliance with company standards.
Responsibilities
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with site, corporate teammates, and supplemental engineering staff to effectively coordinate work activities.
- Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems, including those arising from supplemental engineering deliverables.
- Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities—including those performed by supplemental engineers.
- Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, and documentation, including review and approval of supplemental engineer submissions.
- Provides oversight to AE firms and supplemental engineering teams, ensuring design product deliverables meet project requirements and quality standards.
- Facilitates onboarding, training, and integration of supplemental engineers into project teams.
- Monitors performance, compliance, and safety of supplemental engineering staff, addressing issues as needed.
- Manages EMPACT requests for Engineers of Choice (EOCs), ensuring compliance with internal governance, timely approvals, and alignment with project scope and budget.
- Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Basic / Required Qualifications – Nuclear Engineer III
Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relevant experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience.
Basic / Required Qualifications – Senior Nuclear Engineer
Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relevant experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience overseeing supplemental engineering teams or contract/vendor staff in the commercial nuclear sector.
- Experience with onboarding, training, and integrating supplemental engineers into project teams.
- Experience with quality assurance and compliance review of external engineering deliverables.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for managing diverse teams.

- Flexible and adaptable to various project implementation needs, including integration of supplemental staff.
- Proficient in evaluating and presenting recommendations that involve both internal and supplemental engineering teams.

Must be badged for nuclear site unescorted access or able to obtain unescorted access within a reasonable time frame.
