PMC is the Project Management and Construction group within Duke Energy, responsible for building our new power generation assets and is in the early stages of the largest buildout in the history of the company. As part of Duke Energy’s broader strategy to meet rising customer demand and decarbonize the grid, PMC is actively planning and building renewable solar and bulk energy storage, new simple and combined cycle turbines, as well as developing projects for advanced nuclear, pumped storage hydro, and other emerging technologies. PMC is accountable for the development, design, construction, and commissioning of new generating facilities.
Within PMC, Senior I&C Engineer plays a key role in the purchase, design, and implementing of the Distributed Control System (DCS) and the overall controls design for each new project. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams and interface with multiple vendors throughout the design of the project to ensure safe and reliable performance of the DCS. This position provides technical leadership in the I&C engineering space within a matrixed team of engineers and other technical staff.
Responsibilities
The I&C Engineer works as a member of the project team to support all phases of major projects, from initial project scoping and development to final project close-out. These responsibilities include:
Participate in design reviews, drawing reviews, construction support, resolution of technical RFIs, commissioning support and project warranty support.
Maintain compliance with applicable industry standards (ISA, IEEE, NFPA, NERC, etc.)
Assists in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities under the guidance of higher-level employees.
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.
Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
Basic / Required Qualifications
Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or PE
Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
A master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree
Desired Qualifications
Strong working knowledge Emerson Ovation control system and Allen – Bradley PLCs, or similar control systems
Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam and desire to complete PE license.
Working Conditions
Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the
onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
Travel – 5-25%
