Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at either the Tech I or Tech II level.
This position is accountable for providing nondestructive examination (NDE) support to the Duke Energy nuclear fleet. The candidate will assure that Duke Energy plant NDE is maintained in accordance with applicable codes and standards, regulatory requirements and company policies.
Provides implementation of NDE activities in NDE methods in which certified. Provides problem resolution assistance to NDE technicians performing NDE inspection activities. The candidate will work towards obtaining PT, MT, UTT and ISI VT-1,2,3, IWE/IWL certifications.
Need to interface with the following: Sr Nuc Technical Support, NDE Level IIIs, QC Inspectors, ANII, various auditors, and engineers. Attends meetings representing NDE and reviewing work committed and non-committed schedules.
Basic Requirements:
Nuclear NDE Tech I
High school diploma or equivalent
Previous Power Plant Experience
Ability to obtain Level II NDE certifications that may be required to support plant operations.
Nuclear NDE Tech II
High school diploma or equivalent
3 years Nuclear Power Plant Experience
Must currently be certified to VT 1-3 IWE/IWL.
Currently be Level II certified or be certifiable in Liquid Penetrant and possess the ability to be certified in Magnetic Particle examinations.
Ability and experience to obtain certifications in UT level II certifications that may be required to support plant operations.
Desired Requirements:
3 years Nuclear Power Plant Experience (Tech I), 5 years for Tech II.
Demonstrated basic computer skills (ability to work with Consolidated asset suite (CAS), WORD, EXCEL and other computer programs)
Experience working independently and/or with minimal supervision
Effective communications, both written and oral
Demonstrated Problem Solving skills
Demonstrated ability to work safely
Experience reading and interpreting procedures, drawings and ASME codes
Experience adjusting to rapidly changing conditions and assignments (e.g., locations, work schedules, physical environments, etc.)
Demonstrated advanced computer capabilities
Experience working in a leadership role for both on-line and outage related activities, special projects and assignments
Specific Requirements:
Ability to satisfy all NRC/Nuclear station badging requirements
Ability to work safely in extreme temperature ranges, confined spaces and challenging environments of an operating power plant.
Climb and work from ladders and scaffolding
Carry up to 25 pounds of equipment.
Walking, crawling, bending, climbing, lifting, carrying and sitting in confined spaces
Ability to pass respiratory physical and fit test
Ability to use and wear personal safety equipment (i.e.: fall protection, etc.)
Must successfully pass Duke Energy testing per NDE Manual applicable sections

Full Time
Home Base: McGuire Nuclear Station - Located in Huntersville, NC
Minimum 12 weeks per year of overnight travel and out of town work required
After hours and weekend call outs highly probable
Overtime, 2nd shift work and weekend work highly probable.
